We own a 379 which is now 12 months old and I would like to share a couple of little problems that might affect your boat. The bilge pump and the water filter fitted in ours are made by Johnson. The water pump would go flat out and not pressurise and I thought that there was a leak in the line however it was revealed that clear plastic cover to the ss filter had cracked right across. There must have been a fault in a batch as this happen twice. Caps replaced under warranty. With the bilge pump, it ran but would not pump out, pump was pulled apart no apparent problems, lines blown out, pump put back together still did not work. Problem in the end the two rubber valve flaps were just a little to big and were not sealing. Trimmed them off thickness of fingernail problem solved except for loosing the non capitive screws on the clamp into the bowels, found one . Attachment Deleted

Thanks for sharing.
Did you find this problem on the bilge pump circuit only, or on the freshwater system as well? I'm having similar issues on my 33i where water from the taps just "sputters" out. The pump keeps running without pressurizing the accumulator tank, and the filter cap (shown in your photo) never completely fills.

Hi zeilfanaat problem was with the fresh water. I also found that this was a problem as well and found that one of the connectors was loose as the clips are pressed on which I tightened. Could pay to have the screw type fitted. Check all hot and cold connections throughout boat.

Hi bombaysapphire,
Thanks for posting the additional photos. The setup in our 33i looks exactly the same--I'll check the connections again.

This cracking of the filter cover seems to be an inherent problem. I have had 3 break in the same way, and I have been very careful not to over-tighten them. I have now removed the filter completely after one split when I was away from the boat and the pump ran continuously until I found the problem.
I would recommend finding another filter if you can find the room to fit it, or at least remove the filter in case it splits when you are not on the boat.

Hi
2012 SO 379 known problem ... We have had x3 Johnson water filter cap failures exactly the same as described .. the fourth replacment now seems to be ok could have been a manufactures batch fault but we now carry a spare just in case.
No problems with bilge pump.

Hi Guys, I had exactly the same problem on the water pump on my SO39DS. I must have changed 4 or 5 at least - they do repair with araldite or similar. 5 years or so ago I fitted an in-line filter, with the output pipe going to the pump and have not had any problems since.
