I was on Moondance today and did a bit of a crude measurement by inserting a screwdriver. The screwdriver touched osmething inside at about 3.75 inches which I believe translates to 95 mm. I'm guessing that my measurement might be a bit off. Of greater concern is if the actual mechanism that does the braking is in there or not. It's a pain to open up the pedestal to find out. BTW, I have know idea which Lewmar wheel it is...but of course there are twin wheels each one leather covered and maybe 24" in diameter. They do not fold.

Hi Pabeye, See my comment near the start of this thread about using a length of mild steel rod and a bolt to push it in with to test if there is a braking mechanism. Make sure the rod slides in easily as you have to get it pout again.
My home made system is still functioning perfectly and I have not had any rude comments about it (yet). Rob

I did buy the short wheel brake from Lewmar and added a piece of s/s rod to reach the mechanism. I was meant to shorten that bit of s/s as it was a bit too long but never got to it. It's working perfectly...

Good luck, I would be surprised if there was not a breaking mechanism present.

Many, MANY thanks to all those who contributed to this thread. After reading all the advice I ended up purchasing the brake spinner LEW89100143 ($95 US) from Mauri Pro ( www.mauriprosailing.com/) The part came directly from Lewmar in just a few days as they are located near me in CT. I then fashioned a 30mm "slug" from a SS bolt. It took me exactly 5 minutes to install and WOW....I know have a wheel brake. It was great to find out that the actual brake mechanism was already there. What I find interesting though is two things.........1) WHY did Jeanneau not put the spinner in place when the boat was built........Are the that CHEAP? 2) Moondance is a 2007 model, and she has had two previous owners.........NEITHER one of them missed having a wheel brake? Well, now she does, and again thanks one and all!

I would like to use it.. Many thank's. Antonio S.Y. Alchimia

No pix necessary. I bought a brake spinner part # LEW89100143 from the above mentioned vendor. Here is the link to the part: www.mauriprosailing.com/us/1-Lewmar-Wheel-Accessories/LEW89100143.htmlThe shaft of the spinner is too short to reach the internal brake mechanism which acording to Lewmar Tech support all our boats already have. Now all you have to do is add a "slug" which is just a short piece of stainless steel rod the same diameter as the shaft of the spinner. Using a hack saw, I simply cut a stainless steel bolt that I bought bought in a local hardware store that is the the same diameter as the spinner shaft. Most bolts are not threaded their entire length so of course I used a bolt that was about 4" in length and cut the 30mm "slug" from the part that was not threaded. Insert the slug first into the hole in the hole in the nut that holds the wheel on, then screw in the spinner and now you have a wheel brake. It works perfectly!
