My johnson freshwater pump died on our weekend on the boat. I am trying to replace the 3.4 wps. I spoke to Johnson pump and they suggested the 4.0 wps to replace the 3.4, NOT the 3.5 wps. I found a retailer in Massachusetts that had them in stock
I cannot understand why Jeanneau re-wired the pump to include an external relay. I can only find the relay on the internet in a Citroen car's air conditioner.
Any suggestions why the pump is wired this way?

Does you boat have a hookup for shore water? If so, that might be why the pump might have a relay to shut it off when pressure comes from elsewhere.

Hello,
Can someone please help me.
I am having the same problem with the fresh water pump. The green relay have to be replaced, it gets really hot when I turn on the breaker. The problem is that I didn't took a picture of the cables position.. Now I am confused and not sure where the two bottom cables are connected too. I think the two cables on top, the black and red are the negative and positive. Can I connect the pump straight to the power cables and bypass the relay? Or will it burn the pump later on?
The two bottom cables are for what purpose? both of them are red.
Thank you for your time.

I replaced the factory installed water pump 2 years ago and took the relay out. It has been working with no issues. The relay helps with voltage stabilization when the pump turns on. But agai n, the replaced pump is working fine With no relay.
