Been sailing MY 42DS for a month. Nice boat! Here's a couple of my observations:
- I have the shoal keel. Set Depth to read three feet below hull.
- Have a flex-o-fold folding prop.
- Reef early and often. She rounds up when beating in anything over 15nm true.
- Don't forget to loosen the main leech line before you roll it in or you could have a problem getting it out.
- I have a big cruising spinnaker (pic). Not factory, my dealer rigged it. I can go 60 degrees into the wind. Like a big genny. Only used it so far in light winds. Did 6 knots in an 8 know breeze! I use a snatch block on one of the anchor rollers. Tack line rove though deck d-rings into cockpit.
- Bow pulpit came bent (left side) and is loose. Wasn't till I sat up on the bow that I noticed it was weak.
- Been out in some heavy seas, motored into some 15 footers. Life lines not tighten. A couple of turnbuckles fell off (too dangerous to go forward). Both mirror dropped down and fasteners broke. They need to be secured better! Boat handled the big seas well. Better than the crew
- First time we used oven (reheating a premade lasagna for 20 min), the inside safety glass shattered. Waiting for replacement
- Bilge pump goes off for 3 seconds, every hour. Wakes you up at night. Must have a slow leak. It only takes about an inch of water in the bilge well to trigger the float. Can't be more than 20oz.
- Three compasses on the boat, none agree.
- Speedometers are off. SOG will read 7k, speedometers read 4.5 in both directions. Yesterday SOG on GPS read 5kts going against the current. Speedos read 3.5
- NO CUP holders that you can use underway. Can't find any that would fit anywhere.
- Went under a fairly large bridge, thought we were going to hit. Thanks for the height info.
Sounds like a lot of negative, but the boat is nice and my dealer is fabulous.
What is everyone doing for a flag staff. I can't find one that fits the mount in the stern rail?
