These fans are bloody noisy yes. I have done Ian's conversion to a dial regulated thermostat too and at the same time packed the whole blower unit in very good sound proofing material I still had lying around, making sure the screws that hold the fan against the wooden panel are now also isolated, so no vibrations can pass onto the wooden panel. All you hear now is the engine and the air escaping the scoop at the rear. What a difference!!! Onyva, Do you have a squirrelcage type blower? Just wondering what type of insulation you put around. Would love to see a pic.

I've changed my original expensive awfully noisy and vibrating jabsco blower with SeaFlow inline 270CFM for £17 + duct plastic elbow for £3, covered the blower and the pipe close to it with car bonnet sound reducing self adhesive foam , adjusted with 4 cable ties , don't screw it at all to the boat just let it stay on the pipe and foam - all vibration is now gone, all very quite and nice...

Thanks Vasko,
I don't know how much my engine compartment is at fault for the loud noise but I'll start by trying to find insulation material and see if it improves.
Best,

Hi All,
Another aspect of the blower is the ventilation in the cabin or lack thereof. On 12 hour trip in December 2014, the lack of wind made me motor for 10 hours straight, not fun. After a while, I notice an engine smell in the cabin that I wasn't used to. A quick look in the engine room made me realised the blower was dead. It was very hot in the engine room but the engine kept performing as normal. As soon as got a new blower in, that engine smell disappeared while motoring.
So yes, it is noisy but it help keeping the cabin free of hot and unpleasant engine smell... I have a 2010 SO 36i and the blower is on as soon as the engine starts.
Cheers, Allegria
