I am soon to be the happy owner of a 2002 SO40. One thing I find that it is missing which I would like, is GPS mapping at the helm. I'm wondering how others have added it to their boats? One thought I have is mount it on the grab rail in front of the starboard helm, but I can imagine that someone will try to grab it as support, which will not be a good thing. I found this photo from a SO40 and I am wondering who makes this? Is it a Jeanneau accessory?

looks to me like a scanstrut housing mounted onto some custom stainless tubing. Have a look at www.scanstrut.com you mat find something interesting there. I'm about to mount an 8inch deckpod at the aft end of the cockpit table on a SO42I - I'll post pix when done

It would supprise me very much if that is an official Jeanneau accessory. Imagin yourself , there is a distress situation and you have to run back and forth , I guarantee , afterwards you'll be missing a toenail or two , or -worst case scenario - having a few broken toes. No thanks , this is - for me anyway- a very dangerous construction.
Good luck

Until I get the boat and go out sailing on her, I'm not sure if I will be wanting the table mounted when sailing, especially shorthanded or solo. If it gets in the way, then the navstation will not be placed there regardless of how it's mounted. but it is nice to see what options are available.

i have a SO40 and leave the table up all the time when sailing It is a very wide cockpit without it and and on more than a few occasions the table has saved the day I have installed a plotter to the underside of the table on its support bracket the wiring comes through the floor and up the table leg i will take a pic next time i am on the boat

My SO40 has a chartplotter mounted on a slide-out swivel bracket under the table. It slides back and swivels from side to side for better viewing at either wheel It works really well as it can be put out of the way when not needed. I can't seem to find any good pictures of it but will be back at the boat in about 2 weeks. Let me know if you would like more info on it. I can take pictures and perhaps get a model number then.

This scanstrut deck pod looks a good setup The option to mount upside down makes if good for the under side of the table table. Thankfully I and two boat show in Stockholm this winter which could give me a chance to see more options,

Going a bit of topic, but has any one modified the table setup so that it has the legs replaced by a hollow section for a ice chest?

Thanks The last photo has answered s question I had been meaning to ask. I've seen a nice looking teak table top that I think would look good. I was just not sure if the plastic table had a moulded or a detachable mount. Now I know

Does anyone happen to know how best to route the cables from the base of the table? Is it simply a case of drilling straight through the floor with the cable coming into the aft cabin? (just the thought of it sends shivers down my spine).

My boat has only one aft cabin so the wires go into the chanel for the divider to make the twin aft cabin setup. There is a piece of trim over it to cover up the wires. The wires run aft BTW.
